Launch in Swansea
(Our city tour in the Swansea sunshine)
The City Witness project team were in Swansea at the end of June for a weekend of activities and events linked to our research on medieval Swansea. On Friday 20th our exhibition launched at Swansea Museum with a private view and refreshments. The interpretation panels look great and it's wonderful to see so much of the Museum's fascinating medieval collection grouped together around the William Cragh story.
On Saturday 21st we ran a day of activities linked to medieval Swansea and the 'hanged man' story, in partnership with Swansea Museum. Gareth and Keith led a workshop on historic mapping, joined by Lorenzo Caravaggi who helped develop our 3D models. Harriett led a workshop on the Vatican manuscript itself, inviting participants to do detective work and see what clues they could find in the original medieval writing. In the afternoon, the whole team led a tour of medieval Swansea, stopping off at some of the newly-installed pavement markers. We had wonderful weather and there was quite a festive air as we strolled aorund the city centre! We enjoyed sharing our research, and also learned some really useful information from the local people who joined us. I'll be pronouncing 'Cadle' correctly from now on, plus I was really interested to hear that businesses in the Quadrant Centre still have the address 'Wassail Square' - a nod to the lost medieval gate near here. Who knew? This was a genuine case of real knowledge exchange and we're grateful for all the insights and expertise shared with us.
(The project team's youngest member enjoys the exhibition)
Events and activities linked to the project are still happening - watch this space for more Blog posts coming soon! Thank you again to Paul, Glenda, Karl and all at Swansea Museum, as well as everyone who joined us over the weekend.
